Furniture collection

by Sahil & Sarthak

Arttd'inox first collaborative collections of furniture and lights, designed by Sahil & Sarthak that weaves the warmth and aesthetics of traditional Indian craftsmanship into stainless steel. Staying true to their design philosophy, Sahil & Sarthak have evoked a new design thinking, one where craft can coexist with technology by envisioning our past in the light of our future. In this process, they have created four distinct collections, each showcasing a wide rage of manufacturing processes, combined with distinct characteristics of crafts & culture from different parts of Gujarat.

The land of Gujarat is known for its intricate craftsmanship, colourful fabrics and opulent architecture. The Ajarakh collection speaks of the ancient block printing process from Dhamadka that juxtaposes design with the sheer flow of mathematical poetry , the Adalaj Collection resonates from the intricate architecture of Gujarat such as the Adalaj Step well near Ahmadabad. The Sarafa collection showcases the embellishments of silver finished pipes and bootis that form an essential element of Kutch jewellery,  whilst the Kutch collection is inspired by the mud relief technique practiced by local village dwellers of the great Rann of Kutch.

The story of Gujarat cannot be complete without the mention of the great Rann of Kutch. This ancient land is believed to be the last of the remains of the great Indus valley civilization and host a wide range of artisanal skills practiced by local village dwellers. Mud relief work is one forte of the village dwellers, which they use to decorate their houses. In the great Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, many hamlets have Mud relief walls with the motifs that usually represent their feelings and beliefs. In this collection, Sahil & Sarthak have reinterpreted the age old mud relief mirror work technique onto steel by the use of modern day techniques such as metal etching.

Sarafa Wall Mirror and Floor Lamp

The Sarafa collection draws its inspiration from the bohemian jewellery worn by Kutch women. The beautiful silver jewellery signifies the community and the tribe of its wearer. This style of jewellery is created by complex compositions of wires, pipes, silver beads, bootis and danglers. In this collection, Sahil & Sarthak have drawn inspiration from this unique style of jewellery to design a range of furniture and lights by the innovative use of the pipe bending technique along with hand crafted elements in a contrasting green patina finish. These brass elements are adorned with lotus petal motifs, created through the chasing and repousse technique on brass. Similarly the shape of the central patina element of the Sarafa centre table is reminiscent of a lotus flower bud peeping through a reflective water body.

ADALAJ HANGING PENDENT LAMPS FOR ARTTDINOX

The Adalaj collection draws its inspiration from the impressive architectural monuments from the rich history of Gujarat. One such architectural marvel is the Adalaj step well near Ahmadabad that not only showcases the creativity and skill of its makers but also opens a window to the way of life for a women in those times. In this collection, Sahil & Sarthak blend colour to steel by introducing the use of semi precious stones such as rose quartz and mother of pearl, inlayed along with intricately carved steel and brass.

The Ajarakh collection draws its inspiration from ancient block printing process that originated from the Dhamadka region of Gujarat. The essence of this technique lies in its intricately carved wooden block motifs that juxtaposes design with the sheer flow of mathematical poetry. In this collection,  the designers have reinterpreted the use of these traditional Ajrakh blocks and motifs onto steel, by the use of modern day technology such as laser cutting and metal sheet bending. This collection is highlighted by handcrafted brass elements that borrows its form from the traditional objects and utensils of Gujarat.
